Terms and principles of use

Summary
We understand that when you enter your personal information, you are entrusting something confidential and private to us. We recognise our responsibility to you and this page describes how we use information. Also on this page are the principles of mutual respect which you and all users of the site must follow as you browse or contribute to the material about people and cultures.

By registering in this site, you agree:

  • to allow us to use your personal information in the way described in "our commitments to you" below on this page
  • to show respect for people and cultural differences when adding information and ideas in this site (for example in the discussion forums)
  • that you will see cultures openly and freely described and analysed in this site, sometimes objectively and sometimes from a subjective perspective
  • that open and free debate about people and cultures can sometimes cause offence, whether or not the offence is intended
  • that many of the ideas expressed in the site reflect the opinions and perspectives of users and writers, and not necessarily the producers
  • that the producers are under no circumstances liable for damages (including but not limited to damages for business interruption, loss of business profits/information or any other loss) due to use of or the inability to use this site
  • that the producers accept no liability for decisions made by you on the basis of the learning material in this site
  • that personal development tools like this are designed to create a frame of mind that improves users’ perceptiveness and flexibility; the purpose is not to give direct instructions for business or other decisions
  • that your assessment results (if you complete the assessment module) will be anonymously available in statistical form to any licensee of this site with the status of "trainer"; this means that your assessment results are added to this site's cultural database which is used by licensees, researchers and the licensors to produce statistics about culture; the database produces statistics about groups and categories of people but never reveals personal identifiers such as your name, contact information or job title; only people assigned as "trainers" for your organisation can see such personal identifiers
  • that the licensee (the person or organisation which arranged access for you, such as your employer or training provider) has access to the personal information you enter in this site and that the producers have no control over or liability for how the licensee protects your information; if you are concerned about how the licensee may treat your personal information, please contact that person or organisation directly; through your employment contract or other agreement directly between you and the licensee, you will be responsible for ensuring that the licensee will use your data according to your agreement with the licensee; the producers of Argonaut are not responsible for routine monitoring of data use by licensees.
  • that the producers may use your email address to send you important announcements concerning this site
  • that these Terms and Principles of Use may change from time to time

  • Each discussion forum in this site will display the name of groups and types of user who can access the discussion forum
  • We will store your assessment results (if you have any) and your registration information for as long as the service exists
  • If you personally request us to delete your information from the database at any future time while the service exists, we will do so in line with your employment contract (if the licensee was your employer) and/or local law where you are
  • We hold your information only for two reasons: 1) to be able to provide an efficient, effective and secure service to you as our customer or end-user and 2) to help us and our licensees understand cultural interaction better.
  • Our business is to promote the understanding of cultures and promote effective interaction between them. All our efforts are directed at that service and we have no history or intention of using the information we gather for other purposes.
  • We work hard to maintain the content of this site as a positive appreciation of cultural differences without prejudice or bias
  • We take seriously feedback and complaints about content in this site which users may view as offensive or inaccurate, and investigate every instance
  • We protect your rights - as far as we can within the law - to express your views about cultures inside this site, for example in the discussion forums, as long as your views are constructive and internally balanced, or balanced by alternative views
